Research conducted by the Royal Institute of British Architects found that over 50% of new homes in the UK are too small for families. Many of them would benefit from a small atrium orangery like this one and its matching brickwork. It still manages to provide very distinct and cosy dining and lounging areas in the neatest of spaces. One of its foremost features is the atrium roof, enormously effective at creating the illusion of spaciousness by transferring light inwards. When the light becomes a little too overwhelming, the window blinds can always be drawn.
The four windows also have an outward top opening, similar, but not as wide as the external opening offered by the French doors helping connect the extension to the patio, scene of many future barbecues we’d imagine. Once any rustic dining is over and done with, the downlighters can be switched on so that the conversation can continue indoors on the comfy furniture and flow long into the night. The potted floor plant and beautiful bouquet will keep those inside in touch with nature and who couldn’t be charmed by the treble clef wall plaque – it’s a design we can all be in tune with.
