A government commissioned report entitled the Hills Fuel Poverty Review has found that between 7.8 and 8.9 million people in England will be living in fuel poverty by 2016. These estimated figures take into account the introduction of the Green Deal and various other government initiatives and have also revealed that current fuel poverty figures are way off the mark.
The problem of fuel poverty is now widespread and finding a solution is becoming increasingly hard as the issue escalates further. One of the key messages being projected to homeowners is that they need to shop around more for the cheapest available energy tariff as collectively we are wasting millions of pounds on energy when we could be saving just by switching suppliers.
The other option is to invest in energy efficient measures which are guaranteed to drive down the cost of energy as over a long-term period they will help keep homes warm at a more reasonable price.
